Help Fight Local Hunger!

Primary tabs

Join Morrow County Gleaners and the Morrow County libraries as they help fight hunger!

The Morrow County Gleaners, with help from the four Morrow County libraries, are two-week food drive starting Saturday, September 14th and running through September 26th. Featuring locally themed prize drawings, the event highlights the fact that many families in Morrow County live in poverty and may not know from day to day if they will get the food they need.

A food drive is an opportunity for the community to donate non-perishable items, to be passed along to local food banks. When shopping for items to donate, look for packaging that can withstand multiple moves (plastic jars over glass jars) and that can be opened without any extra tools (pop-top canned goods over ones that require a can-opener). Monetary donations will also gladly be accepted.

Keep in mind that many food pantry clients struggle with health issues like diabetes, so high-fiber, low-sugar, whole-grain foods are better than high-sodium or processed foods, whenever possible. Most requested items include:

  • Pasta and sauce
  • Ready to eat meals (canned: chili, soups (with meat are the best), beefaroni, ravioli, mac & cheese, beef stew)
  • Shelf stable milk
  • Peanut and other nut butters; nuts
  • Canned meats: chicken, tuna, dried beef
  • Canned beans; fruits; and vegetables; applesauce
  • Instant or just add water mashed potatoes
  • Grab-and-go snacks: granola bars, fruit bars; dried fruit; crackers
  • Healthy Cereal and oatmeal
  • Juice and juice boxes

Now all that’s left to do is shop, donate and feel good knowing you’ve helped stock a home with nutritious and filling groceries.
